‘Charity FC strike again’ - Steven Schumacher referenced as Stoke City hand Hull first win
Hull City ended their winless start to the season as they beat Stoke thanks to Jacob Greaves’ first-half goal
Steven Schumacher labelled his Hull City side as “Charity FC” after they finally secured their first win of the season at the expense of Stoke City.
Jacob Greaves’ first-half goal was enough to secure a narrow 1-0 victory at the MKM Stadium, with the Tigers holding on for dear life after the interval.
The Tigers have now taken four points from their last two matches after drawing at home to Swansea last weekend, and boss Schumacher believes the battling display against the Potters was a sign his side are starting to find their feet in the Championship.
Schumacher was full of praise for his players after the match, saying:
“I’m delighted with the win, it’s been a long time coming.
“We’ve had a tough start to the season, but we’ve shown great character and resilience to come through it.
“I thought we were excellent in the first half, we controlled the game and created some good chances.
“We had to dig deep in the second half, but we defended resolutely and deserved the win.”
Stoke boss Michael O’Neill was disappointed with his side’s performance, saying:
“We were nowhere near our best today.
“We didn’t create enough chances and we didn’t defend well enough.
“We need to improve quickly, because we have a tough run of games coming up.
“Credit to Hull, they deserved the win.”
Stoke remain 20th in the Championship table, while Hull move up to 18th.
